How to purchase pre-order items

This guide provides information about the pre-order feature on Mercari.

Users living outside of Japan can place pre-orders in the same way as users in Japan.

*This feature is currently being rolled out gradually and is available only to some users.

What are pre-order items?

Pre-order is a convenient feature that allows you to purchase and reserve pre-order items before their official release.

Differences from regular purchases

The release date of pre-order items may be set up to two years from the start of the reservation period. As a result, it may take some time for the item to arrive. Please check the estimated delivery date on the order screen.

Additionally, pre-order items cannot be purchased using the shopping cart. If you wish to reserve multiple quantities of the same item, you must place separate orders for each.

*You can check the release date at any time from your order history after placing a reservation.

About cancellations and changes

As a general rule, once a pre-order is confirmed, changes or cancellations due to customer convenience are not allowed. However, exceptions may apply if permitted by applicable laws, or if we determine it necessary due to significant changes in the release schedule or product details.

Please carefully review the product information and estimated delivery before confirming your purchase.

If the seller deletes the item, the reservation will be automatically canceled and refunded via the designated method. The timing of the refund may vary depending on the payment method.

  • When reservations open for items you have registered, you will be notified via in-app notifications and email.
  • You will also be notified in the same way if the release date of a reserved item is changed by the seller.

  • About pre-order bonuses
    Pre-order bonuses are provided with the product, but the content, method of delivery, and timing of distribution may change.

    Please note that cancellations based solely on changes to bonuses are generally not allowed.
  • Details of pre-order items
    Sellers may change the release date or product details without prior notice. If there is a change in the release date, you will be notified via in-app notifications and email. Any actions after such changes will follow the conditions outlined in the “Cancellations and Changes” section of this guide.

  • How are items pre-ordered from overseas shipped?
    After release, the seller ships the item to our warehouse in Japan, where it undergoes inspection and preparation for international shipping.
  • Can multiple pre-order items be shipped together?
    No, they cannot.
  • How can I check the estimated shipping date for pre-order items?
    You can check it in the “Estimated Shipping Date” section on the order screen. Shipping times may vary depending on the seller’s situation, and you will be notified via in-app notifications and email if there are any changes.
  • Can you contact the seller regarding pre-order items on my behalf?
    Due to system limitations, we cannot forward individual inquiries about product details or requests to adjust listing information to the seller. Please review the product details carefully before placing your order.
  • What happens if the release date changes?
    The release date of pre-order items may be changed by the seller. If this happens, you will be notified via in-app notifications and email. Please refer to the “Cancellations and Changes” section of this guide for details on how such cases are handled.
  • Can I change the shipping address after placing a pre-order?
    As a general rule, changes are not allowed. Please confirm your shipping information before placing your order.
